Abstract
Background: Management Information Systems (MIS) function as essential business systems which enable data-based decision-making and operational effectiveness and strategic superiority. Organizations encounter various operational difficulties when they implement MIS systems although the advantages of MIS remain widely acknowledged across different industries.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 210 business professionals in the USA across technology, finance, manufacturing, services, healthcare, and retail sectors. A structured questionnaire measured MIS adoption, perceived strategic benefits, employee satisfaction, and operational challenges using a 5-point Likert scale. The study performed Pearson correlation analysis to identify the relationship between MIS adoption and perceived benefits while using p-values to determine statistical significance.
Results: The technology sector exhibited the highest MIS adoption (30%), followed by finance (25%). The strategic benefits resulted in two main advantages which were better decision-making capabilities by 25% and improved operational efficiency. The results showed a significant positive relationship between MIS adoption and strategic benefits (r = 0.68, p = 0.001) but the study revealed a moderate negative relationship between MIS adoption and operational challenges. The organization faces two main operational challenges which include cybersecurity threats that affect 25% of operations and implementation expenses that reach 20% of costs. The organization demonstrated positive employee satisfaction results because it maintained ongoing training initiatives and support systems.
Conclusion: The final section summarizes the main points of the research. MIS functions as an essential system which supports organizations to make strategic decisions and achieve operational excellence.
