Abstract

This study examined whether kiwi fruit (Actinidia deliciosa) can inhibit cancer cell growth. We tested it on HCT-119 cells using MTT and COMET assays. The kiwi extract showed cytotoxicity to these cells, with an IC50 value of 30.038 mg/ml. Under the microscope, we observed damage to cell membranes, reduced adhesion, and cell growth inhibition. Fluorescence staining revealed changes in cell nuclei, indicating apoptosis. The extract also deemed to stop the growth of HCT-119 cells by activating specific cell death pathways. This suggests kiwi extract could be a promising treatment for colon cancer, thanks to its beneficial compounds. We recommend further clinical studies on kiwi fruit extract.

Keywords: Actinidia deliciosa, HCT-119 cells, MTT assay, COMET assay, kiwi fruit extract.
