Abstract
Green nanotechnology, an emerging field that focuses on the development and application of nanomaterials for environmental sustainability, has garnered significant attention in recent years due to its promising potential in environmental remediation and waste management. This technology integrates principles of nanoscience with eco-friendly approaches to address pressing global environmental challenges, such as pollution, resource depletion, and waste accumulation. Nanomaterials are engineered to possess unique properties that enable them to interact efficiently with environmental pollutants, promoting the degradation, removal, and neutralization of toxic substances. These materials are designed to be both environmentally benign and highly effective in addressing complex contamination issues, thus providing an innovative solution to environmental concerns. Green nanotechnology employs a range of techniques, including biosynthesis, green chemistry, and renewable resources, to create nanomaterials that can efficiently treat contaminated water, soil, and air while minimizing the negative impacts associated with traditional methods. For waste management, these nanomaterials show promise in converting waste into valuable byproducts, reducing the environmental footprint of waste disposal, and supporting circular economy models. This review delves into the role of green nanotechnology in environmental remediation and waste management, exploring various nanomaterials such as nanocomposites, metal nanoparticles, and carbon-based nanomaterials. The article highlights their applications, benefits, and challenges in addressing environmental pollution, while also discussing the importance of adopting sustainable methods for their production and application. Furthermore, the review highlights the need for additional research to enhance the performance and scalability of these nanotechnologies, thereby ensuring their broader adoption and effectiveness in real-world environmental management strategies.
